AWS goes to court to pause JEDI deal, decision to remain unchanged, says Wedbush » 07:4401/2301/23/20
Wedbush analyst Daniel…
Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives notes that as expected Amazon (AMZN) has filed a motion in court to pause the landmark $10B JEDI Pentagon deal that was awarded to Microsoft (MSFT). This action is on the heels of the formal protest that AWS has launched within the DOD/federal courts around the heated JEDI procurement process with hopes to change the outcome, he notes, adding that AWS claims it did not win the JEDI contract as a result of Trump's repeated public and private attacks against Amazon and, specifically, around Jeff Bezos. While this will cause noise and delay to the official start of the JEDI deal, Ives firmly does not believe this will change the decision. While Amazon will continue to fight this issue in "JEDIgate" and possibly drag out the inevitable start of JEDI, the analyst ultimately believes this is a paradigm changer for Microsoft who will remain the lone winner. He maintains an Outperform rating and $195 price target on Microsoft shares.

Amazon (AMZN) has filed a motion in court to pause the U.S. Department of Defense and Microsoft (MSFT) from carrying out the up to $10B JEDI contract until a court rules on its protest of the contract award, Reuters' Jeffrey Dastin reports. In a statement, Amazon's cloud division Amazon Web Services said, "It is common practice to stay contract performance while a protest is pending, and it's important that the numerous evaluation errors and blatant political interference that impacted the JEDI award decision be reviewed." Microsoft price target raised to $190 from $158 at Piper Sandler » 06:0401/2301/23/20
Piper Sandler analyst…
Piper Sandler analyst Brent Bracelin raised his price target for Microsoft to $190 from $158 and maintains an Overweight rating on the shares. The stock closed Wednesday down 80c to $165.70. 2020 could be the "defining year for the next decade" at Microsoft, Bracelin tells investors in a research note. The company has a "unique opportunity" to further elevate its cloud leadership position through share gains and "needle-moving" acquisitions, adds the analyst. With $67B in net cash and investments and another $200B of future operating cash flows over the next three years, acquisitions "could take center stage in 2020," contends Bracelin. He believes Microsoft has "many options to enhance its position as a trusted enabler of the digital enterprise" beyond Azure, O365, LinkedIn, and GitHub. He cites the company's cloud, gaming, and security potential for the target raise and recommends continuing to the shares as a core cloud holding.
Microsoft: Misconfiguration investigation found no malicious use of database » 13:3801/2201/22/20
Microsoft said in a blog…
Microsoft said in a blog post that it has concluded an investigation into a misconfiguration of an internal customer support database used for Microsoft support case analytics. The company said: "While the investigation found no malicious use, and although most customers did not have personally identifiable information exposed, we want to be transparent about this incident with all customers and reassure them that we are taking it very seriously and holding ourselves accountable. Our investigation has determined that a change made to the database's network security group on December 5, 2019 contained misconfigured security rules that enabled exposure of the data. Upon notification of the issue, engineers remediated the configuration on December 31, 2019 to restrict the database and prevent unauthorized access. This issue was specific to an internal database used for support case analytics and does not represent an exposure of our commercial cloud services. As part of Microsoft's standard operating procedures, data stored in the support case analytics database is redacted using automated tools to remove personal information. Our investigation confirmed that the vast majority of records were cleared of personal information in accordance with our standard practices. In some scenarios, the data may have remained unredacted if it met specific conditions. We want to sincerely apologize and reassure our customers that we are taking it seriously and working diligently to learn and take action to prevent any future reoccurrence. We also want to thank the researcher, Bob Diachenko, for working closely with us so that we were able to quickly fix this misconfiguration, investigate the situation, and begin notifying customers as appropriate." Microsoft price target raised to $192 from $163 at Raymond James » 08:1601/2201/22/20
Raymond James analyst…
Raymond James analyst Michael Turits raised his price target for Microsoft to $192 from $162 and made no change to his Strong Buy rating, citing continued strong secular trends in terms of the shift of workloads to hyperscale cloud and positive near-term checks. Turits tells investors that his checks were "strong" this quarter, with large North American VARs and distributors mostly above plan and seeing high teens to greater than20% growth. By and large, Turits says the biggest improvement he heard was that resellers were seeing an uptick in E3 toE5 conversions, which is getting a boost from increased interest in collaboration and integration of Microsoft Teams and from security including EMS, Azure Active Directory and Azure Sentinel.
